Entrepreneurial Tribe
As you shift from employee to entrepreneur, you will notice the shift in friendships, acquaintances and connections. Those who don’t understand the entrepreneurial mindset will generally not support your endeavors. So you must now find those who do.
But where will you find support into your entrepreneurial journey? Who will understand your tenacity, vision and drive? Where are the peers who can lend an ear and offer entrepreneurial advice? Here are 6 places to find them.
1. Chamber of Commerce – many times the chamber of commerce offers events open to members and the public. Attend and start networking with other small business owners and entrepreneurs in your local area.
2. Professional Organizations – Many entrepreneurs remain active in their professional organizations. Seek out other entrepreneurs in your local chapter and at regional and national conferences or conventions. You can create a panel at an event to draw out more entrepreneurs or potential entrepreneurs.
3. Meet-Ups – Search in your local area or a bit further for small business and entrepreneur meet-ups. This could include paid happy hours, training events or just fun times.
4. Facebook Groups – there is a plethora of Facebooks with entrepreneurs. Many times you can relate in your frustrations, trials and tribulations. You may find new resources. But more importantly you have found a tribe that understands YOU and your deep seeded need to be an entrepreneur.
5. Blab.im – This is a new platform to social media. It permits for up to 4 people to use their webcam and microphones to have a discussion. There are several “blabs” with entrepreneur focused discussions. If you don’t feel comfortable on webcam, you can still participate in the chat section to interact and post questions. Don’t worry if you miss a blab as most are recorded. You can ask questions via Twitter after the Blab is over.
6. Evite.com – many times entrepreneurs hold events. This is a great opportunity to join in as a panelist, a presenter or exhibitor. Even if you do none of those, the networking and connecting opportunities are definitely present. Take the time, spend some money and develop a plan to make this an efficient and beneficial endeavor.
