Celebrating Women’s Equality Day | Michele Heyward google31169f84088dcff2.html

Women’s Equality Day

It’s Women’s Equality Day! While we can focus on where we are not as women, women of color and women of color STEM professionals, let’s not. Instead let’s do things differently.  We could discuss women’s right or the lack thereof.  We could also discuss Equal Pay Day. But today, we’ll celebrate where we are in the moment. *insert your gasps and eyerolls*

I know I even shocked myself with this idea. But let’s be real. As women of color we carry so much responsibility until we don’t celebrate ourselves or celebrate ourselves ENOUGH! Well today I’m drawing a line and putting up balloons, streamers and handing out sparklers. This year Women’s Equality Day is a CELEBRATION!

Here’s how you can celebrate Women’s Equality Day.

  1. Take pride in where you are in this very moment. You have your STEM degree. You’re a STEM professional. You may not be where you want to be but where are you?
  2. Acknowledge your wins! You may not be where you want to be but where are you? You struggle, you push, you win, you fall down, you get back up! What makes you keep going? What have you achieved thus far in your STEM career?
  3. Celebrate your sisters. Let the other women of color STEM professionals know how great they are. Tell them how much they mean to YOU. Share with they how they make you feel.

We work everyday to change the narrative of women’s equality. Today let’s celebrate who we are, where we are and other women of color STEM professionals with us. Happy Women’s Equality Day.
